At the Lakeview Community Library we are thrilled to have kids of all ages visit and spend time enjoying the many activities our Children’s Library has to offer. We’re a kid friendly environment and nothing makes us happier than to hear families laughing, talking, playing, exploring, and learning at the library.
In addition to our regularly scheduled programs, we offer many other ways to enjoy and learn at the library.
Things to Do:
Children’s Exploratory
- Our Children’s Exploratory contains a variety of interactive and educational toys and self- guided activities.
- Open during regular library hours
- The current theme is "STEAM Lab".
Discovery Packs & Reading Buddy Backpacks
- The library offers a variety of “Discovery Packs” which contain themed books + educational items. Packs can be checked out for 4 weeks.
- We also offer Reading Buddy Backpacks that contain 4-5 character books along with a character stuffie. Packs can be checked out for 4 weeks.
AWE Stations
- The library has two AWE stations in the Children's Library. AWE Stations provide internet-free learning through pre-loaded apps. Kids can choose any S.T.E.A.M. topic to play fun learning games. No library card required.
Reading Programs:
Road to Reading: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten
- Sharing books strengthens a child’s foundation for learning and makes them more ready for school.
- The concept of the program is simple: read a book, any book, to your newborn, infant and/or toddler. The goal is to read 1,000 books before your child starts kindergarten (and yes, you can repeat books). Sign up can be done at anytime by visiting the library's service desk.
- Check out the "Road to Reading" bulletin board and watch your child's vehicle "drive" through the Random Lake as they meet their milestones.
Reading Dragons Program
- Calling all school aged kids: Do you like trading cards? Do you hoard books like dragons hoard gold? Then you need to join our Reading Dragons program! This is a collaborative national reading program encourages school aged kids to read for fun. Participants can track their reading, collect dragon & friends trading cards, and play card games, all while learning good reading habits and gaining a lifelong love of reading!
- The Reading Dragons program runs from September - May each year (following the traditional school year.) Stop by our service desk to register during your next visit and receive your log, collectable card list, and a starter deck! You can join at anytime.
Summer Library Program
- The Lakeview Community Library Summer Reading Program promotes literacy in our community and helps kids maintain their reading skills over the summer.
- The program is open to all ages, with separate categories for children, teens and adults. Sign up begins in May and runs through the end of July or early August every year.
